The Central Europe Dance Theatre ensemble has started rehearsals for The Four Seasons, choreographed by Maciej Kuźmiński

The Central Europe Dance Theatre ensemble has begun rehearsals for the spring premiere of The Four Seasons.

The performance is choreographed by the internationally renowned Polish choreographer Maciej Kuźmiński, known for his sensitive and deeply considered artistic vision. Kuźmiński’s works have achieved success at numerous festivals and stages worldwide, delving into the questions of human existence through an innovative approach that blends contemporary dance with classical music.

The Four Seasons takes inspiration from Vivaldi’s famous composition and reflects on the cyclical nature of life, the fast-paced lifestyle of the 21st century, and the hopeful dissolution within community.

The performance reimagines the movement qualities of European contemporary dance and the foundations of Hungarian folk dance while exploring themes of community, belonging, and the emergence of individuality. In their collaboration on The Four Seasons, Maciej Kuźmiński and the Central Europe Dance Theatre draw upon Eastern Central European rituals and reinterpret them within the context of the 21st century. The performance also addresses the subjective perception of time, with repetition, pure dynamic contemporary dance languages, and partnering techniques being central.

The four seasons depicted in the performance each create a distinct atmosphere. Although the four parts differ in their movement language, they are dramaturgically closely connected. The piece surprisingly begins with the summer season, which addresses the relationship between community and individuality through a rethinking of Hungarian traditions. It then transitions to autumn, where themes of coexistence, permanence, and the relationship between humans and time are explored. The winter season follows, illustrating renewal, conscious thinking, and the creation of individuality. Finally, spring concludes the performance, focusing on free will, new promising beginnings, and the feeling of hope.
