Vitlycke – Centre for Performing Arts and the International Performing Arts Festival HERE:2025 invites dancers and choreographers to join Dance Communication Lab (DCL) at Vitlycke-CPA, Sweden, 25-27 September 2025. Dancers from Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery partner countries: Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Romania and Sweden are welcome to apply.
What is DCL?
DCL – Dance Communication Lab is a 3-day-long workshop-exchange that focuses on dance improvisation as an important component of the creative process in contemporary dance. The aim of the DCL is to give 6 professional dancers from partner countries the opportunity to get to know each other through dance improvisation.
DCL at Vitlycke – CPA – improvisation workshop with Liz Kinoshita (CA/BE)
DCL Vitlycke will take place 25-27 September 2025, in connection to the International Performing Arts Festival HERE:2025. Building on Liz Kinoshita’s twenty years of of experience performing in multidisciplinary creations, the workshop will focus on presence, grounded-ness, and the ability to pivot in instant compositional set ups, to surprise oneself through rigorous scores, structures or a ’cage’ to set oneself ’free’. Participants will study principles from artists such as Thomas Hauert, Tino Sehgal, Chrysa Parkinson, Meg Stuart, as well as Liz Kinoshita’s own improvisation principles.
The workshop will start with physical engagement to get the heart pumping, blood flowing, and body ignited in a studio space. It will establish a safe lab for learning through proposing, action, repetition, and generously formatted discussion around the reverberations each attempt creates as participants witness one another in practice. It will explore the histories and habits each person carries—consciously or unconsciously—and investigate how these can be deviated from when desired, so that performativity is not presented by default or accident, but emerges as deliberate and responsive.
This workshop will culminate in a public showing on 27 September, at the end of the International Performing Arts Festival HERE:2025.
